After 2008's very successful
Fall Festival, because the bread baking was such
an important part of the event, Laura Craft, the festival organizer, wondered
about the possibility of building a permanent bread oven at the Town Center.
So she went about organizing it. Volunteers and offers of help began
pouring in from everywhere.
Jeremy Larson, Skyler Lumbra, and Paul Lumbra of
Top Hat Chimney volunteered the labor and materials to build the
oven.
Dan Wing and Ray Werner provided oven
consultation.
David Hooke organized for Sean
Dalton, Gary Thrasher, Jon Beebe, John Smith, Malcolm Ward, Steve Ward,
Pat Barnes, Marc McKee, Gene Craft, Phil Yacovella, and Gary, Connie and
Courtney Goodrich to provide material, equipment and labor to
excavate and fill the foundation area for the oven and the timberframe
pavilion which would surround the oven.
Tim Ward, Dave Sweet and Carroll Concrete
provided equipment, fill, forms and concrete for the foundation piers.
Dale Ricker was able to donate some
timbers which turned out to be just right for the pavilion.
Mile Gendron sawed the timbers, and the TimberHomes LLC
partners - David Hooke, Josh Jackson, Timo Bradley and Sean Dalton
designed and built the timber frame.
Neal Hochstedler made the steel
connectors to anchor the timber posts to the concrete piers.
Tip Top Roofing is donating a standing
seam roof, Tilden Electric is providing the electrical
work and Omega Engineering donated thermocouples for the
oven.
Jeremy and Skyler have been spending their spare time
for about a month building the oven, and on Labor Day a crew of more than
20 helpers arrived to raise the frame for the pavilion. (See
slide show.)
The plan is that the oven will be ready for this year's
Fall festival and after that will be available to community members to
bake bread or to have a pizza party. VerShare will probably be doing
a pizza and movie night. |
