Vershire Community Library Book Sales

The library is powered totally by volunteer staff.  No public money is spent on maintaining the library.  It relies on fundraising events to cover its minimal costs, including a share of operating the Church-Orr House, and volunteer staff to keep it open.  The two events which occur annually are: The Book Sale, Bake Sale and Plant Sale which has been held on the second Saturday in June since 2002 - before the library opened, and the Fall Book Sale held on the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend in conjunction with VerShare's Fall Festival. All funds go directly to support the library's activities, either for buying books or supporting the library's share of keeping the Church-Orr House open.

Fall Book Sale - October 8, 2011

The Library Book Sale, held the same day as the Vershire Fall Festival, was another great success. The lovely weather encouraged people of all ages to browse at leisure, visit with friends, and take home some real bargains.

Where did all the books come from? Well, many were from our friend, Ron Mura, in Wellesley, MA, but many, many boxes of books were donated by families in Vershire. Just a guess - but there were probably close to 1,000 books to choose from!   Sales totaled $327 - all of which goes to support Library programs.

We couldn't have done it without all the helping hands that sorted books, carried boxes of books, set up on Saturday morning, and took in the cash! A big thank you to everyone who helped make it all work. And it sure helps that two women from Worcester, Vermont, picked up all the unsold books to sell at the annual book sale they put on to benefit their town! It was a win, win situation.

As an added attraction during the morning, the library also hosted a local author talk.

The Made-In-Vershire Shop was buzzing with visitors also. Altogether it was a fun place to be and a nice complement to the Fall Festival going on across the way at the Town Center.   .

Tenth Annual Book, Bake, & Plant Sale - June 11, 2011

Sincere thanks to everyone who donated to, helped set up, and came to the Library Book, Bake, and Plant Sale.  The Plant Sale is getting more popular each year, and it, along with a great bake sale, helped offset a somewhat smaller and quieter book sale.. All told, over $750 was raised to support the library.
